Image via WikipediaSo if you haven’t heard about this controversy, you don’t listen to Glenn Beck. Absolut Vodka put out an advertisement they claim appeals to Mexican sensibility. Huh? Lets first put aside the generalization that all Mexicans believe they should take back what they lost in a war (1846-1848) with the US. I’m sure people in Mexico don’t sit down to dinner and talk about how Nevada really belongs to their nation. I mean come on, they occupied it for 20 years over a hundred and sixty years ago, right?
This advertisement was a representation of how people all over the world feel. They can say whatever they want about the United States and even act on their feelings without us doing a thing. Go ahead and take our jobs, break our laws, use our pulic services (like hospitals for baby delivery) for free and THEN hold a protest at the state capitol building. Reminds me of a line by Jim Carrey in the movie “Liar Liar” – “Stop breakin the law A**hole!”.
Well apparently this ad pissed off quite a few people as the ad was pulled and an ‘explanation’ placed on their website. Good for those of you that complained.
Chew on this: What would happen if a United States based company put out an advertisement (intended to only be viewed in the US) that said “In an Absolut World” and it showed a map of the middle east as part of the US? (I know it’s not an exact comparison.) Difference is that there would definitely be an uprising as their culture wouldn’t stand for an attack on their sovereignty. Here in the US, we don’t even have unity. Schools can’t even recite the pledge of allegiance. Nobody cares about the whole, it’s all about worrying if I > U.

Image via WikipediaSo before I rant, just to let you know I’m not completely insensitive, I just feel strongly about things. Its got to be one way or the other, you do or your don’t.
We keep hearing about how people that now can’t pay their house payment are going to get help by the federal government. It’s just my opinion that we don’t need to swoop in and save the day for anyone that made a poor choice. Its ok to reap the punishments and benefits, these are called consequences. If people don’t experience consequences, they will NEVER learn right?? There are always ‘some’ people that don’t deserve what is coming to them, its called getting screwed! Happens to me all the time! Move on, get over it. Life isn’t fair at least thats what my mom always told me, likely because life wasn’t fair to her.
Its just not what we should be doing. You wouldn’t stop your child from making any little bad choice, and if they did baby them and give them candy to make it better??!! Thats exactly what we are doing here! If you have time, try listening to Glenn Beck. He is awesomely entertaining and besides being LDS, seems to be a good person with his head on straight. See if he is on now at talkstreamlive.com

Image via WikipediaSo as most of my family and friends know, Mandy and I are trying to sell our home. We have lived in Spanish Fork for 3 years now and come to realize how much of our lives is spent commuting. Even though it is only 30 minutes to work, there are several other motivating factors including the cost of fuel. For over a year now we have been carpooling to save money and it has really helped our budget.
We have had our house listed for about 6 weeks now. At first we had people walking through at least every 3 days, even a couple days back to back. For the past 10 days though, nothing. It is definitely a different experience having to make your bed every single morning and wash the dishes as you use them, etcetera.
Everyone that has walked though our house says its very nice, has a great floorplan and is in excellent condition. It shows like a model home, the agents tell us. We did have few criticisms regarding our neighbors yard and the lack of kitchen cabinets. If you want to take a virtual tour, check our website 231s.com
I talked to my mother on Tuesday and she was telling me about how one of her new neighbors had their house on the market for a whole year and only got 1 offer. If you want to take a look at pictures of my mom’s new house, go to pskidmore.com
So for now we will keep our house on the market and see what happens. It is listed at $205,000, at this time we don’t want to go any lower. If it sells, great! If not, thats ok too. We have no reason we must move now.
