Absolut VodkaImage via WikipediaSo if you haven’t heard about this controversy, you don’t listen to Glenn Beck. Absolut Vodka put out an advertisement they claim appeals to Mexican sensibility. Huh? Lets first put aside the generalization that all Mexicans believe they should take back what they lost in a war (1846-1848) with the US. I’m sure people in Mexico don’t sit down to dinner and talk about how Nevada really belongs to their nation. I mean come on, they occupied it for 20 years over a hundred and sixty years ago, right?vodka.jpg

This advertisement was a representation of how people all over the world feel. They can say whatever they want about the United States and even act on their feelings without us doing a thing. Go ahead and take our jobs, break our laws, use our pulic services (like hospitals for baby delivery) for free and THEN hold a protest at the state capitol building. Reminds me of a line by Jim Carrey in the movie “Liar Liar” – “Stop breakin the law A**hole!”.

Well apparently this ad pissed off quite a few people as the ad was pulled and an ‘explanation’ placed on their website. Good for those of you that complained.

Chew on this: What would happen if a United States based company put out an advertisement (intended to only be viewed in the US) that said “In an Absolut World” and it showed a map of the middle east as part of the US? (I know it’s not an exact comparison.) Difference is that there would definitely be an uprising as their culture wouldn’t stand for an attack on their sovereignty. Here in the US, we don’t even have unity. Schools can’t even recite the pledge of allegiance. Nobody cares about the whole, it’s all about worrying if I > U.
