Groceries too expensive to eat?

Image via WikipediaYesterday was the first time that my wife and I have really gone shopping in over two months. I checked my MS Money file and we haven’t spent over $20 since February! So we get ready to go to the store, but first I want to check out this website pinchingyourpennies.com They have all the top deals at local grocery stores for nearly every state the United States. If you haven’t been there before, check it out. We check the ads for Albertsons, Smiths, and Maceys grocery stores. I print out several sheets of coupons and arm myself with the ‘on sale’ list from each store. Those that know me know that I rarely pay regular price for anything. If we go in and grape juice sounds good, but it is not on sale, we don’t buy it.
The first product worth mentioning is yogurt. Is there a shortage of cows? Some organization isn’t releasing enough ‘moo juice’ through the pipeline? I don’t think so. Apparently the increase of the cost of fuel makes a 6 oz. Yoplait Yogurt 80 cents! All I can say is if you are really thinking of selling these for 80 cents, I would condense the shelf space. No one is going to spend this on your product in a recession economy. I have to save my dollars to buy gasoline and heat my home.
Next is milk, $2.99 a gallon at the cheapest; gas stations are selling it for less, c’mon!
We walked away spending just less than $80 on several bags of groceries. We got a ton of cereal, granola bars, snacks to bring to school and other staples we were out of like milk and bread. I know that nearly everyone out there spends more on food, just remember we are never home. This is like the food that you would buy for a vacation house. Vanessa would be happy to know that we believe there is about a months worth of food in our house now.
