Today was my first encounter with what is supposed to revolutionize the left turn arrow. Apparently there has been some frustration with sitting at a red arrow when the road is obviously clear. UDOT hopes to tackle this problem with the new 4 light option in the left turn lane. At the top you have a regular red arrow. Next a yellow arrow, and then another yellow arrow beneath that flashes. Of course the bottom is still the solid green arrow.
Whats confusing is that when the yellow arrow is flashing, does that mean that it is about to turn red or that you should hurry and go since you aren’t going to be protected. Absolutely wrong. The yellow arrow flashes during the entire set that the green or red arrows aren’t on. When the light is about to turn red, it switches to a red arrow. If that doesn’t confuse you to death, here is a flash example of how it all works. Hopefully this educates some of you driving around 8th south and 8th west in Orem. I really don’t want to get slammed into cause someone thought they needed to hurry through the flashing arrow.

Summary:
Solid Red Arrow = Stop. No left turns allowed.
Solid Yellow Arrow = Prepare to stop.
Flashing Yellow Arrow = Left turns allowed, but first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
Solid Green Arrow = Left turns allowed. Proceed with caution.

Image via WikipediaYes, I’m sure that anyone going to any college or university can agree, sometimes the hardest part of going to school is getting there on time. Having to stroll around the parking lot looking for an available parking space for an extra 10 minutes isn’t helping! Today I missed the quiz for the second time in my business management 1010 class thanks to the inability to park anywhere near the building I had class in. Utah Valley State College aka Utah Valley University charges me $80 a year to park in student parking which often ends up being in no-mans-land clear out in the second half of the computer science building lot. I then walk to the business building which takes at least 7 minutes, I estimate it’s about a third of a mile. Parking shouldn’t be the most challenging thing about going to school, it should be those blasted comprehensive finals. Overcharging, overcrowding and overlooking student needs – UVSC is working hard to become a university as fast as possible.

Image via WikipediaYesterday was just one of those crappy days where nothing seems to go right. You wonder if something more can happen. I was waiting for someone to hit my car.
I scraped the tint off my front windows. With only 10 days left on my temporary tags, I thought it was time. Nothing pisses me off more than to spend money on something that does no good and goes in the garbage. I bought the car in Colorado from my brother in law Stuart. He had a friend put on tint that was supposed to be legal in Utah. HA! Nope, sorry. And just to let you know, scraping tint otherwise sucks too. Getting the film off was very very easy (maybe since it was new), but there was a layer of glue that was nasty to get off. I swear there is going to be razor blade scratches in the glass now.
In my lecture series class at 530, first I was late. I hate being late. I would rather be bleeding than to be late. It pisses me off for some reason. So I walk in just in time to get a attendance card before they stopped handing them out. I sit down and we are talking about bugs! Bugs! (just to include, the lecture is always by a guest speaker) The speaker did an excellent job. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the topic, unlike me. It had nothing to do with technology, information systems, computer science or anything similar. I likened it to going to my wifes psychology class and lecturing about programming in assembly. So basically there weren’t any note I thought were relevant to take. I plan to write a 2 page paper (we have to write one for each lecture) about how this doesn’t relate to my major in the least bit.
Then we were going to hang out with our friends Vanessa and Korbin, but I guess Mandy didn’t say anything and I just went along and did whatever. Then around 730 I asked what we were doing and by then Nessa and K were tired and ready for bed.
It just seemed like such a waste of my life. I should have gone home at 1245 and setup my new server and desktop. Hopefully today will be better. Mountain Dew fixes everything.
